PUR edging is the process of applying decorative edges to wood panels using reactive polyurethane glue — a technology that revolutionized industrial furniture finishing. At Fábrica do Corte, we use PUR edging as standard in all our work, ensuring a quality level that traditional EVA glue cannot match.
The main advantage of PUR glue over EVA lies in its irreversible chemical reaction: after curing, the bond between the edge and the panel becomes permanent, resistant to moisture, heat and temperature variation. The result is a virtually invisible glue line — a clean finish that enhances any furniture project, from modern kitchens to office furniture.
Located in Santa Iria da Azóia, in Greater Lisbon, we provide industrial edging services both as a complement to CNC cutting performed at our facilities and as an independent service for pieces already cut by third parties. Each piece is visually inspected after edging to ensure the absence of defects and perfect edge adhesion.
PUR vs EVA Edging: What's the Difference?
PUR Glue (Reactive Polyurethane)
- Resistant to moisture and heat — ideal for kitchens and bathrooms
- Invisible glue line — premium finish with no visible marks
- Permanent and chemically irreversible bond
- Superior resistance to impacts and pulling
EVA Glue (Traditional)
- More economical — suitable for dry and indoor environments
- Visible glue line — yellowish mark on top of the edge
- Softens with prolonged heat and moisture
- Lower durability in demanding environments
At Fábrica do Corte we use PUR glue as standard in all edging work — at no additional cost to the client.
Available Edge Types
ABS Edge (0.4mm to 2mm)
The most widely used option in the market. Resistant to impacts, scratches and cleaning products. Available in a wide range of colors and patterns coordinated with major melamine collections. Ideal for heavy-use furniture.
PVC Edge
An economical alternative to ABS, with good variety of colors and finishes. Suitable for everyday furniture where budget is a determining factor. Good chemical resistance.
Coordinated Melamine Edge
Perfect color and texture coordination with melamine panels. Melamine edging ensures visual continuity between the faces and edges of the panel, creating a uniform and professional finish.
Natural Wood Edge
Premium finish for high-end furniture. Available in various wood species, it provides a natural and sophisticated touch. Ideal for interior design and decoration projects.
Maximum edge height: 60mm. Minimum thickness: 0.4mm.
How the Process Works
We receive the cut pieces
Pieces can be cut at our facilities or delivered already cut. The edges must be clean and straight to ensure good adhesion.
Coordinated edge selection
We select the appropriate edge for the material and desired finish. If necessary, we order specific edges coordinated with the client's melamine.
Automatic application with PUR glue
The edge is applied on our industrial machine at controlled temperature. The PUR glue is thermally activated and cures by reacting with air moisture, creating a permanent bond.
Edge finishing and polishing
After application, the edges are automatically trimmed and polished for a perfect finish — no burrs and with a smooth transition between the edge and the panel face.
Visual quality control
Each piece is individually inspected to verify edge adhesion, absence of bubbles or delamination and the quality of the edge finish.
When to Choose PUR Edging
PUR edging is especially recommended for projects where durability and finish are priorities. These are the scenarios where the difference between PUR and EVA becomes most evident:
- Kitchens — constant exposure to steam, water and temperature variation near the oven and hob.
- Bathrooms — environment with high and constant humidity that quickly degrades conventional glues.
- Protected outdoor furniture — covered balconies, porches and semi-outdoor spaces where moisture is unavoidable.
- High-end projects — when a visible glue line is unacceptable and the finish must be impeccable in every detail.
- Commercial furniture — shops, hotels and restaurants where furniture is subject to heavy use and frequent cleaning.
